Description
This is the west face of the Matterhorn (4.478 m), portrayed at sunset.

The Matterhorn is probably the most photographed mountain in the world, south, east and north faces have been photographed in every possible unimaginable way, but yet I could not find a picture of the western side at sunset.
This, presumably, for logistical problems being this the most "hidden" side of this world-famous peak, cast away from any kind of facilities, and surrounded only by glaciers. So, once taken the photo at sunset, it is highly advisable to stay on the spot until the next day because the glacier after an entire day of sun has become too soft and unreliable.
Anyway, the real motivation of my visit is that this side of the mountain is incredibly beautiful, has a momentum and a style that if defined simply "unique" would be nothing short of a euphemism. You have to see this first hand in order to understand what it means to be in front of such a mighty and graceful spectacle.
Incomparable, truly incomparable.
