Self-timer shot taken at dawn (6:49 a.m.) on the ridges of mount Lagazuoi (2.778 m), Dolomites
Main mountains visible are: Lastoni di Formin, mount Pelmo, mount Averau.

I am absolutely non interested in photographing human subjects, but I love to portray figures in natural settings. Not only to give a sense of scale to the landscape, but rather to find out, somehow "restore", the right proportions of man on this planet.
I guess in this case a simple picture is worth a thousand words...

Humanity is just an element, a part of nature, of the universe, of this planet.
The question "why are we here" has existed since the mists of time, a question that perhaps shoudn't be placed... I guess don't even exists a "why"... in any case reducing the universe to the limited reach of our minds indeed isn't a logical action.

So I confine myself to contemplate the wonderful reality of... being here! A tiny part of such endless immensities :-)

Truly superb photography. i love the composition and the lighting is to die for. I am torn in two directions with this shot. Half of me wants to be the person stood on the outcrop, the other half to be the person taking the shot. Excellent work indeed. Simon

in both cases it is the same person: me!
since this is a self-timer shot, as stated in the photo caption :-)
I set a delay of about 5 minutes, so I had time to move

thanks!

That's an incredible picture and a most agreeable description too. But did you say self-timer? How long did you set it? :)

thank you very much!
if I remember correctly I set a delay of about 5 minutes, just to have the time to go to that ridge which was a bit far
nothing complicated, I just needed the time to go there :-)

Great photo and well said! Man is a small insignificant part of a vast cosmic arena. If only all people truly were in touch with that reality, then perhaps the world would be a better place.

woah! The atmosphere and location are just... i don't know how to describe...
It's a strange combination of hopeless and hopeful... of majestic and lost... lonely but still aware of all the living things around him...
And the light is beautiful, too. It's just an awesome picture and i have to thank you! Thanks for sharing this amazing work with us! :D

A gorgeous picture! And your words are so true. The landscape is just breathtaking.
Did you have to run to get to this cliff in time or did you have enough time because of the self-timer?

A picture is certainly worth a thousand words, and you have captured one worth a million here. This is a truly exceptional photograph, portraying everything you've already noted and more.
Keep up with your talent. Maybe then will the world will see that humanity is just a piece in Earth's puzzle, and that to truly live, we must remember our place. (:

This is easily one of your most impressive shots. I'd so love to use this as an album cover. :D

Also the type of imagery including a single human being in the scenery does reflect on the immersive character of the landscape. I love to do that as well. But never got anything near this sublime of an image. Really, really impressive. :)

I do not think this is one of my best pictures, but I am delighted to see that many people appreciate this work!

years ago I really didn't like landscapes with human entries... now I've changed my mind! I don't even know why (!!)
more than anything else I'm interested to see this, about how much can be changing our own preferences...
who knows what I will prefer in a few years!

best greetings :-)
